One way or another you've landed on PSWOntario.ca. 2011 is an exciting time to be a personal support worker or to enter the profession. This is one of the few job opportunities that actual has employment opportunities (ie they are actively hiring). Very few professions can claim as many current and future levels as PSW. Lets get down to business and look at some of the supporting evidence to this seemingly outlandish claim.
So what exactly makes the personal support worker industry so viable? To begin with the Ontario Government is behind the profession, allocating $107 million in increased funding. The money is to be used by the end of 2011 and is earmarked for hiring 2500 new PSW's, along with increasing wages, benefits and training for current PSW's in the province. And this budget increase was set in place before the current recession, so one can only assume that more money will be flowing into the PSW industry in the short-term future. We'll count that as one check mark in PSW Ontario's favor. | Secondly we are now seeing the long awaited coming of age for Ontario's "baby boomers". With this sector of the population increasing, we will see a rather obvious bump up in the need for care and in turn caregivers (such as PSW's). Of course personal support worker also care for more than just the elderly but this is the most important and in term of numbers, the most populated sector in need of PSW services. |
I would rank these as two very strong reasons for the current popularity of personal support worker education and employment in Ontario. Below are a few websites and sources that you can visit for more
